Liverpool 1
Liverpool One is a £950 million retail, residential and leisure development due for completion in 2008 that builds on the existing streets of Liverpool to create distinct districts. The development is being delivered by The Paradise Project set up by Grosvenor, Liverpool City Council and other partners.
The 42-acre site will link the business district, the waterfront and existing retail facilities. It will include over 160 new shops in a development that has been carefully designed to integrate with other parts of the city’s amenities, such as its museums, galleries and entertainment centres. Liverpool One will also include more than 600 apartments, two hotels, a 14-screen cinema, office space, a revitalised five-acre park, restaurants, cafés and bars, car parking and a public transport interchange.
Six districts will be created, each with its own distinct character and atmosphere:
Paradise Street
Paradise Street will be a chic European-style boulevard for shopping and leisure and will include the new 240,000 sq ft John Lewis department store, a 14-screen Odeon multiplex cinema, restaurants, pavement cafés, bars, and apartments.
Hanover Street
Hanover Street will be a ‘lifestyle-focused’ district with an informal, eclectic atmosphere and a cluster of specialist retailers, homeware and furniture shops, delicatessens, bars, cafés and a large food store. The district will also include new apartments and a new multi-storey car park.
South John Street
South John Street will be a family–orientated, shopping, eating, and leisure destination consisting of dramatic, modern, large scale buildings and will include the new 185,000 sq ft Debenhams department store.
Peter’s Lane
Peter’s Lane will be a designer-led area of exclusive shops based around two small squares, narrow streets and an elegant covered arcade.
The Park
The Park will be acres of beautifully designed and landscaped open space, with a
range of eating places, and 2,000 car parking spaces below it. It will include a new apartment block, and a four star hotel, with views to Liverpool’s historic waterfront.
Public transport interchange
A public transport interchange at Canning Place incorporates a new bus station,
travel centre and taxi stand.
